Why would my child need feeding therapy?
A child’s participation and performance in feeding can be impacted by many factors – premature birth, muscle weakness, coordination, abnormal muscle tone or oral structures, digestive disorders, and sensory processing impairments. Feeding therapy is recommended when an infant or child is having difficulty gaining or maintaining a healthy body weight due to challenges with eating. Children may also benefit from feeding therapy if they are having difficulty transitioning to solid foods or have a restrictive or limited diet.
Feeding therapy can be performed by occupational and speech therapists who have received specialized training in feeding. At Geaux Play!, we have both occupational and speech therapists who have this specialized training. This enables us to offer a unique, multi-disciplinary approach.

How long do sessions last?
Intervention begins with an evaluation of the child’s current level of performance. Evaluations are typically 1-1.5 hours. Therapy intervention begins following the review of evaluation results and the establishment of a plan of care with input from the family. Therapy visits typically occur 1-2 x week for 30-45 minutes dependent on the child’s needs and frequency of therapy visits.
Where are sessions held?
Sessions are typically performed at our clinic but in some circumstances can be performed at a child’s daycare or home.
